Russell Smith

Russell's first triathlon was in 1986 and wetsuits, aerobars, carbon bikes as well as tri gear were things of the future so rugby shorts, a cotton t-shirt and a trusty steel framed bike were suffice for the event. Triathlon has developed considerably since that first endurance outing (by the way Russell ended up 4th that day) so when it comes to knowing a thing or two about endurance sport, over 30 years of participation has provide Russell with a huge amount of knowledge that he is keen to pass on. Over the years he has competed with distinction in duathlons, marathons, multisport events, adventure races, Ironman’s and cycle races, having won multiple age group awards in NZ Ironman as well as triathlons and half marathons. He has competed twice in the Ironman World Champs in Hawaii and won his age group in the standard distance triathlon World Champs in 2012.

Russell is also an accredited Swim Smooth coach. Swim Smooth is the world's leading authority in adult swim coaching! The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has garnered Swim Smooth's services to re-write their entire swim coaching program for swimmers and triathletes in 119 countries all around the world.
